| About the Orchestra | ![]() | Dr. Avi Ilam-Amzalag was born in 1939 and immigrated to Israel at the age of 13. Until his military service, he studied at the "Alya" boarding school in Petah-Tikva. After his military service he studied at an institute for music teachers. He is a graduate of the music academy where he studied flute, composition and conducting. He earned his Bachelor and Master degree in musicology at the University of Tel Aviv. He also earned his Doctorate degree at the Hebrew University for his research work on "Modal Perspectives in the Cantoral music of Moroccan Jews". | |||||||

| Dr. Ilam-Amzalag served as the music director of the Inbal Ensemble and wrote numerous compositions such as "Ahoty Kala", Haba Li Gorali, Moroccan Wedding". He also arranged music for the ensemble as for as for the Israeli radio and television. He also wrote music for the children and young adults theatre as well as various other compositions which are based on the culture of Moroccan Jewry. Many of his compositions including "Popular Suite" were performed in Israel and in Europe by reputed ensembles such as the Cameric Ensemble and the choir of the New York Metropolitan Opera. | |||||||||
